Peugeot XD2S engine. A 2.3 turbodiesel from the 1970s (the S in the name stands for
suralimenté
or supercharged) with 80 bhp. The NA version had 70 bhp.
Ford Duratorq Biturbo engine. A 2.0 turbodiesel from the 2010s with 206 bhp. Originally designed (although Ford won’t tell you this) by Peugeot.
So there you have it. 80 to 206 horses in forty odd years.
Yes, the Ford picture is actually the single turbo one but they look the same.

it really is amazing when you think about it. when I was in Highschool your car was pretty hot stuff if it made near 300 or could 0-60 in or around 7 seconds. now thats all, “meh, its alright I guess”

Well, there’s less to go wrong I suppose.
Otherwise, no thanks.

Modern diesels just don’t last. Those fancy injectors that open multiple times per cycle? 150k km and they’re gone. DPFs make diesels straight up unsuitable for long term city driving. Variable geometry turbos probably don’t work properly on half of the cars that are older than 5 years either.
My dad recently had to sell one of his transits (2010 2.2 TDCi) because injectors and EGR completely shat the bed at exactly 150k km. Booo.

When I was in high school, I drove an SUV that was quicker than that...

When I was in HS the Camaro SS and TA WS6 were the shit. And THE shit was bananas. B-A-N-A-N-A-S. My friend bought a used 1997 BMW 750il moneypit and we thought it was fast with a 0-60 in the mid 6 second range.
That's gonna leave a mark!

You lived in a fancier neighborhood than me. In HS we were happy to have a car that would roll under it’s own power for a quarter mile.

Willows on two cars that went to my high school. Just that time.
